Click on the YELLOW link at the bottom of the page for a virtual 19-stop hike along the Skyline Trail, one of the many trails at Ludington State Park. The Skyline Trail is a one mile loop in which the hiker climbs a wooden stairway from the parking lot to the crest of a dune and walks along the east-west ridge of the dune on a wooden boardwalk. Once on the ridge, the walk is easy and the views are spectacular. The Skyline Trail (and parking lot) begins just west of the Great Lakes Visitor Center, one of eight state park interpretive centers. The Great Lakes Center focuses on the creation and the importance of the Great Lakes that surround Michigan through a series of displays, hands-on exhibits, and a multimedia show. During the summer the center is open daily from 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. In May and September it is open only Friday through Sunday from 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., and is closed the rest of the year. When navigating this Virtual Hike, look around and down for the following navigational icons. Click on one of them to move to another location along the trail.
